MOSCOW, Dec. 3 (Xinhua) -- A crook tried to deceive four would-be illegal immigrants by creating an imitation of the Russia-Finland border but was detained by border guards, Russian media reported Tuesday, quoting a Russian Border Guard Service statement.
According to the statement, the four South Asian immigrants arrived in St. Petersburg and searched for a guide to help with the illegal crossing of the border into the European Union.
The group was detained on Thursday in the border zone, with the South Asians confessing their intentions and disclosing the activities of their guide.
The four were fined and deported after being found guilty of violating the terms of their stay in Russia. The fraudster also faces a hefty fine or imprisonment, the statement said.
