DUBAI, Dec. 3 (Xinhua) -- Security authorities in Dubai seized nearly 25,560 counterfeit firefighting products worth 2.5 million UAE dirhams (680,735 U.S. dollars), said the official news agency WAM on Tuesday.
The products were seized in an operation by the Department of Combating Economic Crimes.
"Acting on a tip-off, the General Department of Criminal Investigations raided two storehouses in the Ras Al Khor Industrial Area in Dubai and seized knock-off fire prevention products, including devices and accessories," said Jamal Salem Al-Jallaf, the department director.
He added that counterfeit products are harmful to consumers, threatening their safety since these fake products do not meet the standards.
"They also cause damage to the country's economy and the original owners of the trademark," he noted.
