LAGOS, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- Two suspected kidnappers lost their lives after they were attacked by local people in Bayelsa state, southern Nigeria, local police said Wednesday.
State police spokesman Asinim Butswat told media the two suspects were arrested on Tuesday evening following a tip off.
He said shortly after police arrested the suspects, many people from the local community overpowered the security operatives and burned the suspects to death.
The suspected criminals were involved in the kidnap of three students from a local college, Butswat said.
"Following a tip off, on Dec. 3, a combined team of policemen and the vigilance group, combed Otuagala forest, in Ogbia area, where the team rescued the three students of College of Health and Technology Otuogidi, who were kidnapped by unknown gunmen on the Dec. 2," Butswat said.
The victims were in good condition, the police spokesperson added.
