Namibia records reduction in murder cases related to gender-based violence

WINDHOEK, Dec. 4 (Xinhua) -- Namibia recorded a reduction in murder cases related to Gender Based Violence this year with 37 cases compared to 51 last year, Namibian Police statistics showed Wednesday.

The statistics revealed that there have been 209 gender based violence related murders since 2016 while over 3,000 rape cases were reported in the same period.

Namibia's President Hage Geingob had urged the country to work harder to ensure gender equality and mobilize efforts to fight gender based violence.

Namibia has adopted the national gender policy and two plans of action which are the National Gender Plan of Action and the National Gender-Based Violence Plan of Action.

Namibia currently holds the African Gender Forum for the top performing country in Africa as part of the Gender is My Agenda Campaign.
