KANDAHAR, Afghanistan, Dec. 5 (Xinhua) -- An officer of the Afghan National Police was shot and killed in a latest targeted shooting in Kandahar city on Thursday, provincial police department said.
Two terrorists riding a motorcycle fired and killed police officer Sultan Mohammad at around midday, near the Police District 12 police station as the victim was on his way to provincial police academy, the police said in a statement.
The terrorists fled the scene and a pursuit operation was now launched against the fleeing men, the statement noted.
Over the past months, the city has witnessed a spate of targeted attacks against police and government employees by the Taliban insurgents.
On Wednesday, a police officer was killed after a landmine planted at a road divider exploded in Police District 6 of the city.
