KUNMING, Dec. 5 (Xinhua) -- Eight Myanmar children suffering from congenital heart disease will receive free treatment in Kunming, capital of southwest China's Yunnan Province.

They have arrived at Fuwai Yunnan Cardiovascular Hospital (FYCH) thanks to a rescue action plan under the Belt and Road Initiative.

The action plan was launched by the China Charity Federation, Yunnan Charity Federation and the FYCH in 2017 and has so far treated 27 Myanmar children.

A total of 15 patients will be treated free of charge this time, and seven of them will come to China for treatment later.

"The age of the eight patients ranges from 13 months to 12 years old," said Myint Myint Khine, senior medical superintendent of Yankin Children Hospital in Myanmar.

There is a long wait in hospitals for patients with heart disease in Myanmar, and they are happy to have the chance of treatment in China, she added.

"We can't afford the high cost of treatment. We are very grateful to China for providing us free treatment," said Aye Myat Thuzar, a patient's mother.
