BEIJING, Dec. 7 (Xinhua) -- Guo Shengkun, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and head of the Commission for Political and Legal Affairs of the CPC Central Committee, met with Tang Ping-keung, commissioner of police of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), on Saturday in Beijing.
Guo said that facing continuous radical, violent and criminal activities, the Hong Kong police fulfilled their duties in accordance with law and strictly enforced law under the leadership of the chief executive of the HKSAR, doing a large amount of effective work in curbing crimes and safeguarding the rule of law.
Noting that ending violence and chaos and restoring order is the most urgent task for Hong Kong at the moment, Guo expressed the hope that the Hong Kong police will focus on the task, strengthen their faith and continue to crack down on violent and criminal activities to protect local residents' safety and properties.
"We will resolutely implement the 'one country, two systems' principle, act strictly in line with the Constitution and the Basic Law, unwaveringly support the Hong Kong police's strict law enforcement, and fully support the police's unremitting efforts in restoring social order as soon as possible," he said.
