Smith and Mahler win in Val Thorens ski cross World Cup

PARIS, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) -- Swiss athlete Fanny Smith and Canadian Kris Mahler claimed the ski cross World Cup victories in Val Thorens, France on Saturday.

Smith was the winner of the day who took the opportunity to pass the Day One winner Sandra Naeslund of Sweden and stay in front until the very finish line, making her 20th World Cup win and 40th World Cup podium.

Naeslund claimed the silver while Canadian Courtney Hoffos ended up in third place.

On the men's side, 24-year-old Mahler of Canada claimed his maiden win after a flawless performance throughout the day. The French duo Bastien Midol and Jean-Frederic Chapuis were in second and third place respectively.

The next stop on the Cross Alps Tour will be Montafon, Austria from Dec. 12 to Dec. 14.
