DHAKA, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) -- The surrounding areas of the Bangladeshi government's Secretariat, administrative hub of the country, are set to become the first silent zone of the capital Dhaka.
The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate said in a statement that all the roads around the administrative hub were declared no-horn zone Sunday.
The "no-horn" initiative is being implemented to create awareness among public about the noise pollution in the capital.
Bangladeshi Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Md Shahab Uddin said earlier that a pilot project to make Dhaka free from sound-pollution will begin on Dec. 17.
He said the pilot project is an outcome of an inter-ministerial meeting to take appropriate measures in a bid to prevent air and sound pollution in Dhaka.
