WASHINGTON, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- Randall Schriver, the assistant secretary of defense for Indo-Pacific security affairs, has resigned his post, U.S. media reported on Thursday.

U.S. media reported that Schriver has resigned and will leave his post at the end of the month.

Schriver's decision to leave after two years in the job was due to personal reasons, according to the report.

Citing multiple sources, Foreign Policy magazine also noted that his resignation came amid his friction with the Pentagon's policy planning branch, led by Under Secretary of Defense for Policy John Rood.

Schriver's departure leaves the Pentagon with another vacancy in its civilian leadership. Navy Secretary Richard Spencer was removed from position last month due to the handling of SEAL controversy.
