KIEV, Dec. 13 (Xinhua) -- Ukraine and Moldova on Friday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on cooperation in gas supply security.
The MoU was signed in Moldova's capital city of Chisinau, according to a Facebook post by Representative of Ukraine's Ministry of Energy and Environmental Protection Svitlana Karpyshyna.
"The memorandum confirmed the intention of the two ministries to create dialogue and mutual assistance between the states in the supply of gas, eliminate and prevent serious irregularities in energy networks, as well as mitigate interruptions in the supply of natural gas, in particular to consumers of both states located in the border zone," according to the Ukrainian ministry.
Currently, Moldova is purchasing Russian gas that is shipped through Ukraine. The current contract on the transit of natural gas from Russia through Ukraine to Europe expires by the end of this year, and no agreement has been reached on its extension so far.
