Indonesia to host international triathlon race in Lombok next year

JAKARTA, Dec. 18 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia will hold an international triathlon championship in the country's resort island of Lombok next year, the organizing committee has said here Wednesday.

The international sports event the so called "the Lombok 70.3 Ironman 2020" is slated to be held on July 4, 2020 in West Nusa Tenggara province where the island is located, said Arie Sukirno, CEO of the Indonesia Sports and Event Management, the organizing committee of the event.

The race will stage three sports branches, starting with swimming for 1.9 kilometers, cycling with a distance of 90 kilometers and running for 21 kilometers.

Arie pointed out that the race was expected to be participated in by more than 1,000 domestic and foreign athletes.

Situated to the east of Indonesia's Bali, Lombok Island offers many dreamy beaches, and this race features clean ocean waters, a smooth, undulating bike course and scenic run, according to the committee as reported by the media.

"Hopefully, fellow athletes from abroad to be enthusiastic to take part in the race," said Indonesian triathlon athlete Inge Prasetyo who will compete in the July race.

Inge Prasetyo said she could not wait to show her best performance in the event.
