ASADABAD, Afghanistan, Dec. 25 (Xinhua) -- Five militants of Islamic State (IS) outfit have been killed in an airstrike launched by NATO-led coalition forces in Afghanistan's eastern Kunar province, the military said Wednesday.
"The sortie was conducted in Noorish village of Chawkay district roughly at 12:00 p.m. Sunday. The strike was launched against an IS hideout and further details about the strike will be shared with media afterwards," army's 201 Corps Selab said in a statement.
The mountainous province has been the scene of clashes between IS militants and government security forces for long.
Amid military pressure, more than 1,300 fighters and families of the IS outfit have laid down arms and surrendered to security authorities in the neighboring Nangarhar province over the past two months, officials said earlier this month.
The militant group hasn't made a comment on the report so far.
