NEW DELHI, Dec. 28 (Xinhua) -- India's foreign exchange (Forex) reserves reached the all time high at 455 billion U.S. dollars, after increasing by 456 million U.S. dollars during the week that ended on Dec. 20, the latest data released by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has said.

The RBI is India's central bank.

The rise in Forex reserves was mainly on account of an increase in foreign currency assets, which is a major component of the overall reserves. The foreign currency assets surged by 311 million U.S. dollars to 422 billion U.S. dollars, said the RBI's weekly data.

During the said week, the country's gold reserves increased by 164 million U.S. dollars to 27 billion U.S. dollars, added the data.

Expressed in U.S. dollars, the foreign currency assets include the effect of appreciation or depreciation of non-U.S. units like the Euro, Pound, and the Yen held in the Forex reserves.
