GAZA, Jan. 3 (Xinhua) -- Various Palestinian factions and military wings based in the Gaza Strip condemned on Friday the assassination of senior Iranian commander Qassem Soleimani.

Soleimani, the commander of the Quds Force of Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps, was assassinated on Friday in a U.S. airstrike near Baghdad airport in Iraq.

Islamic Hamas movement said in an emailed press statement that it sends its condolences to Iran for the death of Soleimani "who played a significant role in backing the Palestinian armed resistance."

The movement, which controls the Palestinian enclave of Gaza Strip, also condemned "the ongoing American crimes that create tension in the region, which serves the criminal Israeli enemy."

"The United States of America is fully responsible for the bloodshed in the Arab region," Hamas said.

The Palestinian left-wing faction, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, said in a statement that the murder of Soleimani is a "quantum leap in the American aggression and wars it wages in the region."
