MAPUTO, Jan. 3 (Xinhua) -- Mozambique's re-elected President Filipe Jacinto Nyusi has called for the first session of the new assembly of the republic to take place on Jan. 13 in Maputo, a press release issued by the presidential office said Friday.
New members of the parliament are to be sworn at the session, representing the interests of the 27. 9 million Mozambicans in the coming five years.
The new legislative body is dominated by the ruling Frelimo party which secured 184 seats out of 250, while the main opposition Renamo secured 60 seats and the second largest opposition party MDM had only six seats.
The session will also elect a new chairperson of the assembly.
Two days after the session, the country will witness the swearing-in ceremony of the president for his second term.
