NEW DELHI, Jan. 7 (Xinhua) -- Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will chair a meeting of experts at government's policy think tank -- National Institution for Transforming India (NITI) Aayog (commission) on Jan. 9, state-run broadcaster, All India Radio said Tuesday.
The meeting scheduled on this Thursday is likely to discuss the state of economy in the country.
"The meeting will also be attended by Niti Aayog Vice Chairman Rajiv Kumar, CEO Amitabh Kant and other senior officials of the think tank," the broadcaster said. "The meeting assumes importance as the government is in the process of formulating budget proposals for 2020-2021."
The period from July to Sept. 2019 showed growth rate slowing to 4.5 percent.
The economic data released by the government highlighted a prolonged slowdown in the economy. Experts attributed the slump to poor performance in the agriculture and manufacturing sectors.
With the slump in growth rate at present, analysts say India lost its position as the fastest-growing major economy.
On Monday, Modi interacted with country's top business tycoons to discuss issues facing the economy and measures needed to boost growth and create jobs.
India's Federal Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the country's budget on Feb. 1.
India plans to invest 1.4 trillion U.S. dollars in the infrastructure sector in the next five years to achieve the GDP target of 5 trillion U.S. dollars by 2024.
