Chinese guitarist Yang Xuefei to give recital in Beijing

BEIJING, Jan. 8 (Xinhua) -- Yang Xuefei, an acclaimed Chinese guitarist, will perform at the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) on Feb. 29.

The recital will include Chinese folk music such as "Moonlit Night on the Spring River," "Fisherman Song at Eventide" and "Silver Clouds Chasing the Moon." The guitarist will also perform classical Western music including "The Girl with the Flaxen Hair" by Debussy and "Miller's Dance" by Manuel de Falla.

Yang is considered a classical guitarist virtuoso who has won international recognition. She is the first guitarist to enter a music school in China, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts from the prestigious Central Conservatory of Music, and the first Chinese guitarist to study in Britain with an international scholarship. She received the Principal's Prize on completion of her postgraduate study at the Royal Academy of Music in London.
