TASHKENT, Jan. 8 (Xinhua) -- Uzbekistan will hold elections for the country's 100-seat Senate on Jan. 16 and 17, the Uzbek Central Election Commission said on Wednesday.
According to Uzbek election laws, 84 members in the Senate are elected and the President of Uzbekistan appoints other 16 senators among the well-known personalities "who have extensive practical experience and have especially proved themselves in science, art, literature, the production sphere, as well as in other areas of the state and society's life."
The Central Asian nation held elections for the 150-seat lower house of the parliament last December.
