Wang Chao (1st R) and other rail flaw detectors from the Changchun section of China Railway Shenyang Group Co., Ltd. wait to restart operations until a train passes in northeast China's Jilin Province, Jan. 8, 2020. The work of Wang and his seven-member team is 38.5-kilometer-long rail flaw detection of Beijing-Harbin railway. Equipped with ultrasonic devices, flaw detectors can inspect and eliminate potential rail safety hazards efficiently. The lowest temperature in Jilin dropped to minus 20 degrees Celsius recently. As cold weather might cause subtle physical impact on the railway, flaw detectors have to conduct examination in the cold every day. For them, walking 7 to 8 kilometers a day in biting wind is a usual practice. Knee-deep snow and chilblains are frequent occurrences. The upcoming Spring Festival holiday is a traditional time for family reunions, while the travel rush will last for 40 days from Jan. 10 to Feb. 18 this year. Numerous workers as Wang Chao spend their efforts to maintain the railway equipment for serving the travel rush. "We will try our best to make sure the smooth operation of the railway, and we wish a safe journey for every passenger." said Wang Chao. (Xinhua/Xu Chang)
