NEW DELHI, Jan. 13 (Xinhua) -- Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday congratulated Sayyid Haitham bin Tariq al-Said on taking over as the new Sultan of Oman.
"I heartily congratulate Sayyid Haitham bin Tariq al Said on taking over as Sultan of Oman. I am confident that under his leadership, Oman will continue to progress and prosper and contribute to global peace," tweeted Modi.
He added: "India has millennia old relations with Oman. We look forward to working hand in hand with Sayyid Haitham to further strengthen our strategic partnership."
Meanwhile, the Indian Government has declared one-day state mourning on Monday over the demise of the erstwhile Sultan of Oman Qaboos bin Said al Said who passed away on January 10 at the age of 79.
Modi on Saturday condoled the demise of Sultan Qaboos bin Said al Said of Oman, describing him as a "beacon of peace for the region".
