BEIJING, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) -- Around 100 new species of medicinal plants were discovered by the end of 2019, according to a survey report on Chinese materia medica resources conducted by the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).
Among the newly discovered species, nearly 60 percent of them have potential medicinal value based on preliminary analysis, and there are also quite a few taxonomic discoveries and new records of the TCM resources, according to the report.
As of now, China has recorded information such as the types and distributions of nearly 13,000 kinds of wild medicinal resources nationwide, said the report, adding that there are 3,150 endemic species of medicinal plants in the country.
Conducted in 2011, the survey has covered more than 2,600 county-level administrative areas in 31 provincial-level regions across China. It is expected to complete field surveys by 2020, the report said.
