Germany win men's skeleton, Russia claim luge team relay victory at Winter YOG

ST. MORITZ, Switzerland, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) -- Lukas David Nydegger from Germany won the gold of men's skeleton here at St. Moritz Olympia Bobrun on Monday while Russia claimed the victory of luge team relay.

The 17-year-old Nydegger, coached by Anja Huber Selbach, the 2008 women's skeleton world champion, raced to the gold finishing 2 minutes and 17.00 seconds, with 1.42 seconds lead over the silver medalist, the 16-year-old Elvis Veinbergs from Latvia.

The team from the host Switzerland celebrated the first medal in sliding sports: Livio Summermatter, the 2019 Swiss skeleton champion, won the bronze at a time of 2:19.53. A total of 20 athletes from 13 countries raced in the men's skeleton race.
