SEOUL, Jan. 22 (Xinhua) -- The monthly income of wage earners in South Korea rose 3.4 percent in 2018 from the previous year, statistical office data showed Wednesday.
Wage and salary workers earned a monthly income of 2.97 million won (2,550 U.S. dollars) on average in 2018, up 3.4 percent from the prior year, according to Statistics Korea.
The monthly average income of male employees stood at 3.47 million won (2,980 U.S. dollars) in 2018, around 1.5 times larger than 2.25 million won (1,930 U.S. dollars) for female workers.
The average monthly income of female employees increased 5.5 percent in the cited year, while the figure for male workers added 2.7 percent in the year.
Paid workers in their 40s earned the largest monthly income of 3.65 million won (3,130 U.S. dollars) on average in 2018.
It was followed by 3.41 million won (2,920 U.S. dollars) for those in their 50s, 3.22 million won (2,760 U.S. dollars) in their 30s, 2.06 million won (1,770 U.S. dollars) in their 20s and 2.02 million won (1,730 U.S. dollars) for those aged 60 or higher each.
Employees of big corporations earned 5.01 million won (4,300 U.S. dollars) per month on average in 2018, more than doubling 2.31 million won (1,980 U.S. dollars) for those in the small and mid-sized companies.
