WINDHOEK, Jan. 30 (Xinhua) -- Namibia will host over 1,000 participants in the Sanlam Coastal Marathon scheduled to take place on March 21, the organizers announced Thursday.
The annual marathon is expected to be bigger and better than ever before and will see runners battle it out in four categories namely the 5km fun run/walk, 10km, 21km and the 42.2km marathon in the coastal town of Swakopmund.
Sanlam Marketing and Communications Manager Hilaria Graig said the winners of the marathon in the 42.2km race walks away with a cash prize and automatic participation in Africa's only IAAF Gold Label status marathon, the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon taking place in October this year.
According to Graig, this year, the marathon will be held over the Independence weekend, carrying through the theme of celebrating Namibia's independence.
"Our goal is to make the Sanlam Coastal Marathon the best in the country and every year, we go out of our way to make the event bigger and better and improve on the shortcomings of the previous year," said Graig. Enditem
