TRIPOLI, Feb. 18 (Xinhua) -- The east-based army of Libya on Tuesday announced the destruction of a Turkish ship carrying weapons off Tripoli's coast.

"The Turkish ship loaded with weapons and ammunition, which arrived in Tripoli port this morning, has been destroyed," the east-based army's information office said.

The forces of the UN-backed government said that the east-based army had attacked Tripoli's seaport with rocket missiles.

No information about casualties have been revealed so far.

The east-based army has been leading a military campaign since April 2019 in and around the capital, attempting to take over the city and topple the rival UN-backed government.
