HONG KONG, Feb. 21 (Xinhua) -- Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Legislative Council (LegCo) approved to allocate 30 billion Hong Kong dollars (3.85 billion U.S. dollars) for Anti-epidemic Fund on Friday.
The HKSAR government proposed to the LegCo to set up a fund for the fight against the COVID-19 epidemic days ago. LegCo Finance Committee held a meeting on Friday evening to deliberate on the proposal and approved to earmark 30 billion Hong Kong dollars.
HKSAR Chief Executive Carrie Lam expressed her heartfelt thanks to LegCo members for their support and approval of the funding application to achieve the objective of fighting the disease together to ride out the difficult time in a statement.
She stressed in the statement that all relevant bureau will spare no efforts in implementing various measures as pledged and try to ease procedures so as to benefit enterprises and members of the public as soon as possible.
"In addition to the assistance provided by the SAR government, I appeal again to all sectors in society to stand united in this difficult time and support each other with the spirit of mutual care and assistance to prevail in this challenging period," Lam said.
