BEIJING, Feb. 24 (Xinhua) -- The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has urged the expansion of disinfection product supplies on major e-commerce platforms.

By the end of this month, a total of 460 tonnes of disinfectant and one ton of instant hand sanitizer will be provided on the e-commerce platforms to meet the rising demand for epidemic prevention items, according to the MIIT.

Countering a temporary shortage of disinfectant products, the MIIT has coordinated the supply of raw materials and increased temporary production capacity, especially the production of small-package products.

On Feb. 20, China's daily output of disinfectant, hand sanitizer and medicinal alcohol surged 207 percent, 151 percent and 270 percent, respectively, compared with data registered in late January.

In the meantime, major e-commerce enterprises have enhanced their efforts to secure adequate supplies of epidemic prevention materials. E-commerce platform Pinduoduo has allocated 1 billion yuan of subsidies to prop up consumers and merchants in hard-hit areas. Suning, another online retail platform, had released 10 million bottles of medicinal alcohol and 10 million bottles of disinfectant onto the market by Feb. 5.
