SHANGHAI, Feb. 25 (Xinhua) -- Shanghai is posting a special QR code in its public transport system to allow passengers to declare their health condition and ask for help while commuting, the city government said Tuesday at a press conference.
Shanghai Municipal Transportation Commission said passengers can scan the QR codes in taxis and subway carriages to report health conditions and leave contact information so that health authorities can timely contact them and take necessary measures should circumstances related to COVID-19 arise.
Yang Xiaoxi, deputy director of the commission, said this information and big data technology has been implemented on Shanghai's public transport since Feb. 21 as an epidemic prevention measure. It involves cooperation with digital payment platform Alipay and Chinese mapping service provider AutoNavi.
Officials said as of Monday, the codes have been posted on more than 18,000 taxis in Shanghai and scanned by over 24,000 passengers.
