CAIRO, Feb. 28 (Xinhua) -- The Egyptian cabinet denied on Friday rumors that the authorities in Egypt have discovered large numbers of new coronavirus cases.

In a statement, the cabinet highlighted its "complete transparency" in dealing with any suspected cases of coronavirus infection, noting any new infections would be announced immediately.

The World Health Organization (WHO) will also be notified about any new cases, the statement added.

The cabinet also refuted the news of stopping quarantine procedures at Egyptian ports and airports, saying all precautionary and preventive measures to prevent the entry of the virus are being carried out.

The remarks came hours after French Health Minister Olivier Veran announced that two elderly people who returned from a group trip in Egypt, were tested positive, bringing the total number of the coronavirus cases in France to 38.

On Thursday, Egypt's only announced case of COVID-19, a foreigner, was discharged from hospital after the quarantine period was over and the case tested negative.

All the tests which the foreigner went through were conducted under the supervision of both the Egyptian Health Ministry and the WHO, said Egyptian Health Ministry's spokesman Khaled Megahed.

Since the outbreak of the epidemic, Egypt has adopted an integrated plan which covers early detection, quarantine and treatment measures, as well as raising public awareness.
