Mu said a region-wide survey will be carried out for the medium and long-term plans for grassland protection and restoration so as to promote the national pilot for ecological restoration of degraded grasslands and the pilot program for grassland policy insurance.
Inner Mongolia will continue to carry out ecological poverty alleviation, strictly implement the ecological compensation policy and develop economic forests and eco-tourism to increase incomes of impoverished populations.
The region has some 88 million hectares of grasslands, accounting for one-fifth of the country's total. It has afforested over 600,000 hectares of land every year, which accounted for one-ninth of the country's total ecological construction task in recent years. ■
