BERLIN, March 8 (Xinhua) -- Front runners Bayern Munich established a four-point advantage atop the standings after Thomas Muller and Leon Goretzka were on target against resilient Augsburg at the closer of the 25th round on Sunday.

Augsburg made Bayern's life difficult in the first half but the German record champions increased the pressure after the restart and extended their unbeaten run to 15 games with two second-half goals.

The "Fuggerstadter" staged a courageous performance from the starting whistle and disrupted Bayern's build-up work within the midfield.

Hansi Flick's men controlled possession but lacked in ideas to threat Augsburg's well-organized defence.

The hosts had to wait until until the closing stages of the first 45 minutes before they produced their first clearcut chance but Muller pulled over the target from promising position.

Bayern's veteran striker cut a better figure in front of the goal after the restart when he made no mistake to break the deadlock following Jerome Boateng's long through ball.

The defending champions gained the upper hand and pressed Augsburg into defence as the game clock ticked.

Bayern worked out more goal scoring opportunities but they lacked in precision as Philipe Coutinho and Serge Gnabry failed to beat Augsburg goalkeeper Andreas Luthe.

The visitors almost punished the home side's wastefulness into front of the target but Florian Niederlechner missed two golden chances in quick succession from very close range in the 80th minute

Bayern then made the game safe in the added time as Leon Goretzka marked his third goal of the season by courtesy of Gnabry's good build-up work.

With the 17th win of the campaign, Bayern Munich sit four points ahead of runner up Borussia Dortmund meanwhile Augsburg slipped to the 14th position.

Elsewhere, bottom side Fortuna Dusseldorf secured a vital point in the relegation battle as they held Mainz to a 1-1 stalemate.
