JERUSALEM, March 15 (Xinhua) -- Israel has decided to ban the use of cash in public transport as part of efforts to stop the coronavirus spread, Ministry of Transport announced Sunday.
This order, which aims to reduce contact between drivers and passengers, will come into effect on Tuesday, and since then payments will only be possible via electronic smart cards.
The ministry also called on the Israeli public to use public transport for essential purposes only.
Also, the ministry canceled bus lines to places of entertainment and shopping centers, all of which closed on Sunday for an unlimited time.
