QALA-E-NAW, Afghanistan, March 17 (Xinhua) -- Five Taliban militants, four Afghan security personnel and a civilian have been killed as fighting erupted in the western Badghis province on Tuesday, deputy to provincial police chief Shir Agha Alokozay said.
The clash, according to the official, flared up after a group of Taliban militants stormed a security post in Jawand district of the relatively restive province early Tuesday morning, leaving five insurgents including two local commanders dead.
Four security personnel, including three police and one soldier, as well as a civilian had been killed in the firefight lasted for a while, the official admitted.
Six more insurgents were wounded in the fighting, the official said.
The Taliban militants fighting government forces in the province have yet to make comment.
