JERUSALEM, April 5 (Xinhua) -- Israel's unemployment rate has jumped from 4 percent to 25 percent since the beginning of March amid the coronavirus pandemic, the Israel Employment Service announced Sunday.
According to the bureau, 887,283 Israelis have applied for unemployment benefits since March 1, while the total number of unemployed people in Israel currently exceeded 1.05 million.
The data showed the southern resort city of Eilat, located on the Red Sea coast, is the worst hit in Israel from the coronavirus crisis, with the unemployment rate jumping from 3.3 percent at the end of February to 69.3 percent in just a month.
Earlier on Sunday, Israel's Ministry of Health said a total of 8,018 coronavirus cases have been diagnosed in Israel so far, of whom 47 have died and 126 are currently in serious condition.
