TEHRAN, April 22 (Xinhua) -- An iconic theater hall in downtown of Iran's capital Tehran has been turned into a factory to produce health products for the public as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to affect the daily lives of the Iranians.

In the Hafez Theater Hall, a group of volunteers have lined up like factory workers, busily working to produce face masks.

The machines at the disposal of the group have been bought through the public donations, said the group members.

Their products will be distributed among the helpless people in an attempt to help them as the country struggles to curb the dissemination of the novel coronavirus.

This volunteer group is among dozens of other volunteer communities across Iran to help the country curb the pandemic.

The social contribution comes in the face of U.S. sanctions against the country, which have deprived Iran of accessing to its financial resources outside of the country to use them for the purchase of health items amid the outbreak of the virus.

As of Tuesday, Iran has reported a total number of 84,802 cases of the novel coronavirus in the country, of whom 5,297 have died.

Iran announced its first cases of COVID-19 on Feb. 19, and it records one of the highest number of confirmed cases and death toll in the Middle East region. Enditem
