Egypt confirms 201 new COVID-19 infections, 7 deaths

CAIRO, April 24 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian Health Ministry reported on Friday 201 new COVID-19 cases and seven deaths.

The total number of infections in the country has hit 4,092, including 294 deaths, Spokesman for Egyptian Health Ministry, Khaled Megahed, said in a statement.

All the new cases are Egyptians, the spokesman said, adding that 71 cases have left hospitals in the past 24 hours after fully cured, raising the tally of recoveries in the country to 1,075.

Over the past month, Egypt has temporarily suspended schools and universities, halted flights, cancelled sports activities, closed entertainment places and malls, stopped mass prayers and shut down museums and archeological sites to combat the virus.

On Thursday, Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly announced renewing a nationwide nighttime curfew during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan that starts on Friday, reducing it from 10 to nine hours. Enditem
