LUSAKA, April 27 (Xinhua) -- The Zambian government has commended the China Nonferrous Metal Mining (Group) Co. Ltd (CNMC) for being a strong partner in fostering sustainable economic development.

The Chinese firm, which runs a number of companies in Zambia, has been promoting private sector development agenda as evidenced in its management of the firms under it and efforts in initiating other capital projects in various parts of the country.

Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry Christopher Yaluma said the Chinese firm has also been active in attracting other investors from China to invest in Zambia, an initiative Zambia appreciates.

Speaking after a visit to Chambishi Multi-Facility Economic Zone under Zambia-China Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone (ZCCZ), and some of the projects of it, the Zambian minister urged the firm not to relent but to continue with its efforts.

"As government, I want to assure you that we will continue supporting your efforts and continue to implement policies that are conscious to the private sector needs," he said.

He further commended the strong cooperation that has existed between China and Zambia reflected in a number of thematic development cooperation including trade and business.

China, he said, has extended invitations to Zambia to participate in various trade and investment promotion events.

Liao Zibin, the ZCCZ's managing director, said the firm has been keeping a mutual growth mindset in Zambia as demonstrated by its continued resolve to invest in the country.

The CNMC, he said, has in the past two decades invested more than two billion U.S. dollars in Zambia. "Therefore, we are determined to be part of Zambia's social and economic development. We cherish the friendship of our two countries that has existed for more than 55 years," he said.

The ZCCZ also donated 30,000 kg of mealie-meal to flood victims.
