NEW DELHI, April 27 (Xinhua) -- India's federal health ministry on Monday evening said 14 new deaths due to COVID-19, and 488 positive cases were reported since morning across the country, taking the number of deaths to 886 and total cases to 28,380.
"As on 5:00 p.m. (local time), today 886 deaths related to novel coronavirus have been recorded in the country," reads information released by the ministry.
In the morning the number of COVID-19 cases in the country was 27,892 and the death toll was 872.
According to ministry officials, so far 6,362 people have been discharged from hospitals after showing improvement.
"The number of active cases in the country right now is 21,132," reads the information.
Monday marks the 34th straight day of the ongoing lockdown across the country announced by the government to contain the spread of the pandemic.
The lockdown which was announced on March 25 has been extended until May 3.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi held an interaction with Chief Ministers of the states through video conference.
He told Chief Ministers they have to give importance to the economy as well as continue the fight against COVID-19. Enditem
