BEIJING, April 28 (Xinhua) -- The Beijing Treaty on Audiovisual Performances, an international document to protect performers' rights, came into force Tuesday for its 30 contracting parties.
The treaty, adopted by members of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in Beijing in 2012, aims to deal with the intellectual property rights (IPR) of performers in audiovisual performances.
Commending the treaty as a milestone in international IPR protection, the WIPO said the treaty will improve the protection offered to performers by the international community, and promote the development of the audiovisual industry.
China will continue to work with the WIPO to encourage more countries to approve and sign the treaty, said an official with the National Copyright Administration.
The Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, China's top legislature, ratified the treaty in 2014. Enditem
