DAMASCUS, April 30 (Xinhua) -- Six Syrian soldiers were killed on Thursday when a roadside bomb planted by the Islamic State (IS) targeted their bus in eastern Syria, a war monitor reported.
One officer was among the soldiers, who were killed when a roadside bomb ripped through their passenger bus in the Hmeimeh area in the remote eastern countryside of Homs province, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
The UK-based watchdog group said the area witnesses a growing activity of IS militants.
The attack is the latest in a string of IS attacks in eastern Syria.
The Observatory said 502 Syrian soldiers and pro-government fighters have been killed since March 2019 in the desert region in the remote eastern countryside of Homs and Deir al-Zour province in eastern Syria.
It said 179 IS militants have been killed within the same period of time. Enditem
