TUNIS, May 21 (Xinhua) -- Lobna Jribi, Tunisian minister in charge of major national projects, announced on Thursday new measures to revive the economy as the COVID-19 pandemic winds down.
Jribi told a press briefing that 75 percent of activities in the industry, services and construction sectors, which were previously closed to curb the spread of COVID-19, will resume activity on May 26.
"Nurseries and kindergartens will reopen on May 26, with a capacity of 50 percent of children, while ensuring compliance with rules and hygiene measures," the minister said, warning that "no negligence will be tolerated."
She added that baccalaureate students will resume classes from May 28, while the reopening of mosques and the resumption of training for elite athletes involved in international competitions, as well as the activities of cultural centres, museums, archaeological sites and tourist restaurants, are scheduled for June 4, at 50 percent capacity.
But travel between governorates during the Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, will be prohibited, said Jribi.
The gradual opening of the economy remains dependent on compliance with the preventive measures, including wearing masks, social distancing and hand hygiene.
As of Wednesday night, Tunisia reported one new COVID-19 case, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 1,045, with 47 deaths. Enditem
