A new airport is under construction on the Pamir Plateau, northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. It is expected to be the highest airport in the region after completion. The Taxkorgan Airport, located at 3,252 meters above sea level in Taxkorgan Tajik Autonomous County, involves a total investment of 1.63 billion yuan (about 230 million U.S. dollars). It will be the first super-high plateau airport in Xinjiang, according to the Xinjiang Airport Group.
