MADRID, June 11 (Xinhua) -- The sales of houses and apartments in Spain fell by 39.2 percent in April year on year, according to data published by the Spanish Statistical Office (INE) on Thursday.
During the month, 25,042 homes were sold as the housing market was hit by the lockdown imposed in mid-March to halt the spread of the coronavirus, which limited freedom of movement throughout April.
There was a 41.3 percent fall in new homes sales, while the purchase of second hand homes was reduced by 38.8 percent and that of subsidized housing dropped by 43 percent.
The INE explained that the coronavirus restrictions complicated the work of Property Registries throughout Spain, making it impossible for clients to view houses and apartments. Enditem
