ISLAMABAD, June 19 (Xinhua) -- A hand grenade attack near a government office in Pakistan's southern port city of Karachi killed one and wounded 10 others on Friday, police and local media said.

Police officials in the area told Xinhua that some unknown miscreants riding on a motorcycle hurled a hand grenade at the Ehsaas program center established to provide money assistance to poor people hit by the ongoing coronavirus crisis in the Liaquatabad area of Karachi, the provincial capital of south Sindh province.

The attack also caused damage to a vehicle of paramilitary rangers that was parked outside the center, said police, adding that a paramilitary trooper was among the injured.

The target of the attack was not immediately known. However, according to some media reports, the personnel of the paramilitary force were likely the target.

Following the blast, rescue teams along with security forces reached the site and shifted the injured people to a nearby hospital.

No group or person has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.

This is the second blast in the province in a day. Earlier in the morning, at least three people, including two security personnel, were killed and five others injured after a blast hit a vehicle of the paramilitary force in Ghotki city of Sindh. Enditem
