China announces 26-player squad for Tokyo 2020 women's basketball tournament.
BEIJING, July 14 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) on Tuesday announced a 26-player squad for the women's basketball national team to prepare for the postponed Tokyo Olympic Games.
The team's training is planned to commence on July 19. Players, coaches and staff have to test negative for COVID-19 before entering the athletes' apartments.
The 26-member list features captain Shao Ting, who has recently joined Women's Chinese Basketball Association (WCBA) side Sichuan following seven years in Beijing.
Apart from Shao, prominent names such as Li Yuan, Li Yueru, Han Xu, Sun Mengran and Li Meng also appear in the squad.
Other participants include Zheng Ming, Guo Zixuan, Wu Tongtong, Zhang Ru, Zhang Lingge, Xu Chenyan, Wan Jiyuan, Wang Jiaqi, Huang Sijing, Yang Liwei, Chen Mingling, Wang Siyu, Fang Zhuoya, Pan Zhenqi, Wang Xuemeng, Li Yifan, Song Kexin, Liu Yutong, Tang Ziting and Xiong Zhongyi.
China won all three games in the Olympic qualifying tournament in February to advance to the Tokyo Olympics, which have been delayed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. ■
