Emad Abdel-Qader, head of the state-run Petroleum Pipelines Company, said in a statement that the fire, which broke out in the Shuqair-Mostorod pipeline near the Cairo-Ismailia Desert Road, had been successfully extinguished.
Abdel-Qader believed that a broken oil pipeline and a spark caused by the cars on the busy road led to the fire. The company immediately closed the pipeline's valves after the accident.
The official revealed that a technical committee has been formed to determine the cause of the accident, adding that the results will be sent to the security authorities. ■
