QINGDAO, China, July 15 (Xinhua) -- With center Zhou Qi scoring 14 points in the fourth quarter, Xinjiang Flying Tigers tamed Beijing Royal Fighters 104-86 in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) here on Wednesday, extending its winning streak to six games.
Zhou made both of his shots and the deficit rise to double digits at the same time with a free throw in the first quarter, helping Xinjiang lead with 37-24.
Beijing cut it to three points with fast breaks midway through the second quarter and grabbed a 47-46 lead when the first half expired.
Two sides traded the lead several times in the third quarter. Arnett Moultrie made an alley-oop dunk just before the buzzer, sending the Royal Fighters leading with one point into the final quarter.
Xinjiang obtained a 14-point lead instead after Zhou hit a three-pointer, and maintained the advantage until the end, making Kyle Fogg's game-high 41 points and 13 rebounds in vain for Beijing.
Moultrie contributed 20 points for Beijing, with Wang Zirui adding nine.
For Xinjiang, Zhou finished with 25 points, Qi Lin and Fan Ziming collected 16 and 11 points respectively.
"We played against a really good team tonight. This team is very experienced, and they played with each other for a long period of time. They were aggressive from the beginning to the end, and stayed focused when they lost the lead," said Stephon Marbury, coach of Beijing.
"The young players weren't afraid of the two powerful overseas players and fully displayed their skills. This victory will boost the young players' confidence and the whole team's morale," said Xinjiang coach Adiljan. Enditem
