ANKARA, July 16 (Xinhua) -- Two police officers from Turkey's special operations forces were killed in an operation conducted by provincial gendarmerie command, the Turkish Interior Ministry said on Thursday.
Two others were also wounded in the operation conducted by provincial gendarmerie command against the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) in Pervari district of southeastern Siirt city.
In the close combat with "terrorists" in Degirmentasi Tepe region of Dogan village, four police special operations personnel were injured on late Wednesday, and they were taken to a military hospital by helicopter, said the ministry in a written statement.
Two heavily wounded officers died at the hospital, said the ministry.
Turkey has long been conducting operations against the PKK targets in the southeastern part of the country.
The PKK, listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the United States and the EU, has been rebelling against the Turkish government for more than 30 years, which has claimed the lives of more than 40,000 people. Enditem
