BEIJING, July 23 (Xinhua) -- China had 1.319 billion mobile internet users by the end of 2019, accounting for 32.17 percent of the world's total, according to a report on China's internet development.
The country's e-commerce industry saw a transaction volume of 34.81 trillion yuan (about 4.97 trillion U.S. dollars) last year, ranking first in the world, said the report, released on Thursday at the online opening ceremony of the 19th China Internet Conference.
Online payment transactions amounted to 249.88 trillion yuan in China in 2019, and the added value of the digital economy stood at 35.8 trillion yuan, ranking second in the world, said the report.
Miao Wei, minister of industry and information technology, said at the ceremony that China will accelerate the building of new infrastructure such as 5G, and promote the innovative and integrated application of technologies, including cloud computing, big data, and artificial intelligence (AI).
More than 30 online forums on 5G, AI, industrial internet, and blockchains are set to be held during the three-day virtual conference. Enditem
